: hello! :

Welcome! On this site you will find information about me, my work, and what I have been up to in the last few years. I am currently finishing up my MFA in Visual Communication Design at Kent State University and hope to obtain a full-time teaching position starting in the Fall of 2012.

HOW Design University: Making Your Mark online class

Begins October 1st, 2012!
Need to build an identity system from the ground up? I will take you through the logo design and branding process in this course. You’re not going to be designing logos for fake companies—the entity you’ll be branding is yourself! After you design your logo, I will teach you how to build a full identity system with it. You’ll learn how to make decisions about naming, symbols, color and type, and you’ll design items you’ll be proud to use. Whether you’re freelancing, submitting cover letters and resumes, or running a business on the side, this course will help you express your personal design style and teach you a lot about identity design along the way.

Final Project: Shop Locally PSA

Class: Kinetic & Sequential, Spring 2012
For our final project we were asked to create a 30 to 45 second public service announcement. I chose local shopping, and wanted to try a more collage/illustrative style. There are a couple "quick" transitions that need adjusted, but I am overall happy with the outcome.

Contributing Design
I am so fortunate to have such a great relationship with the my friends at HOW magazine since working there as art director from 1998 to 2001. I am often asked to help out on a freelance basis, and I am always happy to oblige! I have worked on many of their competition issues, and hope to work on many more in the future.

Learning Frames iPad app prototype

Class: Advanced Kinetic & Sequential, Fall 2011
This is the walk-through video I made using AfterEffects for my educational iPad app that I developed, which was created to motivate children to learn in school. Different students enjoy different subjects, so by combining different subjects into one, interactive project, it will appeal to many different students and connect their love of digital media with the inspiration to learn in the classroom.

Thesis work, Fall 2011

Personas
For my thesis research I created a survey to find out how children used digital media in their everyday lives. I received 54 responses back, and after analyzing and grouping the data I came up with 3 personas that will help me define the users of my final thesis deliverable.

Concept map
My thesis is about how digital media and unstructured play can be combined in order to foster healthy child development. As I work on my secondary research I wanted to build a concept map to help make sense of it all. The ultimate goal is to build a digital and/or interactive tool of some kind that kids will love which will inspire them to spend time outdoors.
